Dapitan Initiative

During Jose Rizal’s last four years exiled in Dapitan, our National Hero showed us the kind of Leadership needed today to achieve the United Nations 2030 Sustainable Development Goals (SDG). The Rizal Development and Heritage Center Foundation is committed to continue his legacy.

The Dapitan Initiative is a 6-year action research journey. The members of the tri-sectors of society, Business,Government and Civil Society representing three organizations, the Knights of Rizal, The Rizal Academy for Innovation and Leadership (TRAIL), and the Rizal Development and Heritage Center Foundation.

The action research question is: how can we support Business, Government, Non-Government and Civil Society institutions with their SDG initiatives?

Action Research Objectives

Updating RA 646 and RA 1425 into Memorandum of Agreements with Government and Non-government institutions to collaborate and contribute to the achievement of the United Nations 2030 Sustainable Development Goals.

Activate the local and global chapters of the Knights of Rizal to support Government, Business and Civil Society with their SDG projects through training and fund-raising.

Collaborate with global and local institutions working towards the creation of a better World through the achievement of the United Nations 2030 Sustainable Development Goals.

Knights of Rizal

REPUBLIC ACT NO. 646, Approved June 14, 1951 established the Knights of Rizal as a public corporation defining its purposes and powers, as follows: (1) To develop the most perfect union among the Filipinos in revering the memory of Dr. Jose Rizal. (2) To promote among the associated knights the spirit of patriotism and Rizalian chivalry. (3) To study and spread the teaching of Dr. Jose Rizal and keep ever alive his consecrated memory and to make effective his exemplary and exalted principles. (4) And, to organize the annual festivities in honor of Dr. Jose Rizal.

The Rizal Academy for Innovation and Leadership

The Rizal Academy for Innovation and Leadership is an educational initiative from Leaders in Business and Civil Society intended to offer executive training programs and technical support for change agents and innovative leaders committed to societal transformation through their respective organizations or communities. Inspired to continue the structural reforms initiated by Dr. Jose Rizal.

Presencing Institute

The Presencing Institute was founded in 2006 by MIT Sloan School of Management Senior Lecturer, Dr. Otto Scharmer and colleagues. It is a global action research community that applies Theory U to societal transformation by shifting the social field from ego-system to eco-system awareness.

Why be part of RCF?

The Rizal Development and Heritage Center Foundation and the Knights of Rizal, will oversee the systematic training and implementation among KOR chapters of various SDG initiatives in their communities in collaboration with the local government and other organizations who may want to join.

RCF will be collaborating with Educational institutions for the Rizal SDG Hero narrative that will be part of their curriculum, encouraging students to start SDG initiatives in their schools.

RCF will monitor key success indicators of the Dapitan Initiative to determine social impact, open to iteration for best practices.

RCF will help the Taskforce build and deepen relationships across stakeholder systems which aims to activate and amplify a locally anchored, regionally and globally connected network of hundreds of cross-sector SDG change initiatives

The Challenge

With the example of our National Hero, Dr. Jose P. Rizal, to guide us we invite all Filipinos who love their country to join us in this timely and momentous endeavor. Let us work together towards co-creating societal structures that will uplift the life of the Filipinos.

Without education and liberty, which are the soil and the sun of man, no reform is possible, no measure can give the result desired.
